THE NEW UNTOUCHABLES MOD AND SIXTIES FESTIVAL - MARGATE.
So, the 2018 New Untouchables Margate Mod and Sixties weekend had arrived, this ever expanding weekend is getting bigger and bigger with Live acts being flown in from around the world to play to a very sussed crowd. this year saw the incredible Brenda Holloway, Push, Les Grys Grys, Len Price 3 and others entertain the New Untouchables faithful on what turned out to be the first of many beautifully weathered weekends. Unfortunately due to other things going on I was only able to make the Saturday night, after a quick shower and change at lunchtime it was off down to Olbys for a much deserved drink, Margate from Gloucestershire is a long way without alcohol...I was greeted by the sounds of two incredible DJ's, our very own Alan Saunders and the super talented Andy Hill doing the duties behind the ones and twos. After bumping into Mr New Untouchables himself Rob Bailey and the South wests finest Lee & Dave Grimshaw it was time to finish the afternoon with a nice 1 to 1 drink or two with Lee Miller, ever the good drinking partner...
Back to the hotel for a quick bite and a freshen up and back to the venue for the Saturday night session with the incredible Les Grys Grys, after a few hellos with friends old and new outside the venue it was time to head downstairs into the action where the band were rocking the rafters with a blistering set of monster garage and R&B flavoured stompers. The band certainly didn't disappoint and the packed venue happily grooved away to the foursomes eclectic mix.
DJ's took up after the band finished and continued to keep the party going until the small hours, the place was packed full of incredibly dressed Mods and Sixties fans while Dave Edwards and the rest of the New Untouchables turntable wizards banged out top tune after top tune keeping toes tapping.
My feet eventually gave up the ghost and it was time for me to head out the door and back to the hotel with the promise to myself that no matter what happens next year I'll be spending more time in Margate.
