So, many moons ago there was a famous Sunday all day event hosted by two of Londons top Faces, step up Dave Edwards and Chris Dale in 1991. Their aim was to find a Sunday Evening hang out where all of Londons coolest people would wind up their weekends listening to rare Northern and sixties soul. Now you have to remember these were the days before the internet so this weekly gathering was an ideal time to relive weekend memories and make plans for the forthcoming get togethers across this fair country of ours.

The guys decided to host these events at the Water Rats in Kings Cross, as on a Sunday it could be rented for free. The format was to have guest Dj's, and what was once thought would be a small gathering of likeminded folk turned into the stuff of folklore spanning nearly a 10 years in history.

People came from all over and some of the top DJ's graced the decks of this legendary club until sadly it was wound up due to The Water Rats being left to decay. Both Dave and Chris have gone onto become two of the scenes biggest DJ's, hosting and playing at events all over the country placing the memories of this hedonistic Kings Cross playground firmly in their own memory banks. Where the sands of time would bury them until a spark was formed and the sands were blown away once again to relive the goodness that was the Sunday Shakedown.

It was discovered by Suit Yourself Alan that the Water Rats had been refurbished to it's original layout, and after meeting the new owners Alan (who used to be a regular back in the day) was soon on the phone to Chris Dale. After months of planning, both Chris, Dave and the Suit Yourself team bought together the DJ's that had made the Sunday Shakedown that party that it once was. Using the same venue, with the total refurb and new sound system, and inviting friends old and new, the whole day was packed full of surprises. Fun and incredible music and whilst some of the original DJ's couldn't make it due to prior engagements the incredible Mark Bicknell, Tony Smith, Alan Handscombe, Ian Jackson, Rachel Yarwood and Alan Saunders kept the sway of dancers in full motion throughout the day. Mark Bicknell was handing out 'Secret stash' badges and a prize draw took place for some 'Secret stash' goodies. (you can see our Interview with Mark in the DJ's Section)

All in all the day, even though ran for 10 hours, soon came to an end with friends old and new bidding fond farewells. The perfect end to the perfect day. We were very proud to be part of this event and there are plans to do more in 2018 but for now, Dave, Chris and the Sunday Shakedown we salute you......Thanks for the memories. Words - Cris Davies
